Since everyone is so busy these days, it's best to send out your invitations eight weeks in advance. There are a few things you can do to help the RSVP process as well as the event itself, go smoothly.
Definitely include: (1) an RSVP card with a line for the guest's name(s) (do not include the letter "M" at the beginning as doctors and clergy, etc. may be responding), (2) lines for number of guests attending and not attending, (3) include an RSVP date, (4) write a small number on the back of the RSVP card that corresponds with the guest(s) number on your guest list for double-checking purposes, (5) include a self-addressed stamped (a pretty stamp is nice if you have time to go to the post office) envelope.
Misc. suggestions for lines to include: (1) number of people attending reception, (2) number of children attending, (3) meal choices, (4) number of people attending other activities.
Clever suggestions for items to include: (1) maps to various destinations (event location, etc.), (2) list of activities with dates and times, (3) suggestions for attire worn at all activities.
PLEASE NOTE: If finances are a factor (which is the case for many of us), do not hesitate to send out a free Evite invitation: www.evite.com
The majority of people purchase printed invitations with the bar mitzvah details.
Thank you for your generous gift on the occasion of my Bar Mitvah.
bnei mitvah (בני מצוה) is the proper plural form.
Many towns and cities have local printing services that will be able to design and print many Bar Mitzvah invitations - using this option is often the best as the consumer is then offered face-to-face discussion about the product and, quite often, a better deal. Further to this, there are websites such as Zazzle and Simcha invitations who specialise in the celebrations of Bar Mitzvahs and sell invitations.
It means if you want a drink you have to pay for it yourself.

In Judaism there is the Bar Mitvah for young men and the Bat Mitzvah for young ladies. As for atheist's initiations; there are none. If one is a non-Christian, then there's no need for rituals.

You can s imply write 'cash bar' on the invitation and also if there will be food; whether it's a live band or not, etc. If this birthday is in a hall or reception area then be sure to put a map in with the invitations and your home phone and cell numbers.
I don't recommend it - use invitation cards instead.
Zazzle is a website which has over 6700 different designs for bat mitzvah invitations. If you speak to other members of the Jewish community they will be able to tell you where they sourced invitations for the Bar and Bat Mitzvahs of their children and provide you with personal recommendations.
