defiantly off because it will keep heating up but it wouldn't be a good idea to put water because it was made with oil so... i would try it
If you can see the plates in the battery add distilled water to top it off.
If the chip that tells the engine what to do overheats , the car will shut off. Most cars do not have such a devise.
It is primarily caused by dehydration; without water and sweat, the body cannot cool off and overheats.
You did not specify make model and year. If you have a very old car It could be doing what is called dieseling. OR The engine computer could be keeping it running to try to get it to cool off. But with out knowing what car it is those are just guesses.
no you check your oil with car off easier when car is cooled off
It wil shut off.
fill the radiator back up with water/coolant then start the car with the cap off and continue to fill it up as it is being sucked into the motor replace the cap and let the car warm up if it still gets hot shut it off and keep repeting till it wont accept water any more but the real question is why did it over heat but that's another subject right?
might be a bad head gasket or radiator might be clogged or timing might be off you would need a machanic to look at it and diagnose it
It can. You should leave the engine running while you add water to the radiator. If you add water with the engine turned off, but while the engine is overheated, you might damage the engine or the radiator.
fill radiator up the start car after the thermostate opens it will do the trick after running awhile let car cool off then check water in radiator if needed add water if not close it up.
Head gasket I presume. If the car overheats quickly exhaust is getting into the radiator. With it cold, take the cap off and start the car. Water will shoot out of the radiator a foot or two. Check the oil. If water is getting into the oil it will look like chocolate milk. If water is going in the exhaust, you will have large clouds of white steam coming out. Usually it is one of these, in extreme cases you may get two or all of them.
Car should be OFF. If it CAN be refilled you would remove the caps located on top of the battery. Carefully add distilled water until water level is full but not overflowing. Replace caps. Wipe off any spilled water. Do NOT get any water from battery on your clothes, skin or eyes. Do NOT smoke while refilling your battery - it could explode!
