Gas gauges work based on electrical resistance. When the float in the tank is moved up or down by the fuel level, it changes the resistance and the gauge reads differently. Some gauges read full if resistance is high and full is resistance is low.

If I understood the question, you unhooked the gauge and it is reading full, that is because you have opened the electrical contacts to unlimited resistance. But, if the gauge was always reading full, before you disconnected it, and that was the root of your problem, then the wire could be shorted to chassis ground and the gauge is reading the resistance of the entire truck.

What does a high newton meter reading mean?

Unfortunately, you'll have to be more specific. If you are referring to a Newton meter (instrument), a high meter reading would indicate a high force or weight (not mass). Alternatively, a Newton-meter could be a Joules (a unit of work) or, if the force is applied as a rotational force, a Newton meter would be a unit of torque.

How do you calculate resistance of 1 meter cable?

You could use a very sensitive Ohm Meter or you could get a longer piece, such as 100 m, measure with an Ohm Meter and divide by 100. The problem is that the resistance of 1 meter length will be very low and it would be hard to get a reading other than zero from most Ohm Meters.

Why it is essential for voltmeters to have a very high resistance?

if the resistance of the meter is low that will act as a parallel load effecting the reading. If the meter can be made with infinite resistance then the meter will not effects the actual reading.

What is wrong with your single phase electricity meter if it does not show any numbers in the meter reading panel?

One of the conditions that would cause this is that there is no supply voltage to the top of the meter. Another problem could be, the neutral tickler wire has become disconnected.
