Goldfish and other types of fish do sleep. They do not sleep like people because they must keep moving water over their gills in order to breathe, but they do relax and go into a sleep-like state.
They will chill on the bottom of the aquarium and won't move much. They will wake up and move around more if you touch them while they are sleeping, or if you turn on a light because they have no eyelids.
This is why you should never leave an aquarium light on all night.

Goldfish can settle at any level in the water to rest/relax although they often do go to the bottom.
they are at the bottom of the tank, and are very still. you can see their eyes, but they are just sleeping.
No. Often fish will just stay in one place if they are resting or sleeping. However if the fish is floating ontop of the water or you havent noticed movement or eating in a few days, then probably.
To keep afloat
Some goldfish, especially large ranchu/lionhead goldfish who are lacking a dorsal fin, may lean slightly to the left when they are sleeping. This is normal behavior and shouldn't be of concern unless the fish is exhibiting signs of illness or is acting lethargic.
