After the overthrow of Oliver Cromwell and the Protectorate and the execution of those charged with the regicide of Charles I, Charles II became King and the Restoration began. After agreeing to end the feudal structure, he was given operating funds by Parliament. The problem was he could request funds as long as many times as he needed. The period was known as the Restoration.
In 1640, King Charles I of England faced significant turmoil due to his attempts to rule without Parliament and impose taxes without consent. His actions sparked widespread discontent, leading to the Short Parliament in April, which he abruptly dissolved when they refused to grant him funds. Later that year, the Long Parliament convened, leading to escalating tensions that ultimately contributed to the outbreak of the English Civil War in 1642. Charles's authoritarian rule and failure to address grievances fueled conflicts between the monarchy and Parliament.

The Parliament of Great Britain, specifically the Long Parliament, met from 1640 to 1660, making it one of the longest-running parliaments in British history. Initially called by King Charles I to address financial issues, it became a central player in the political turmoil leading to the English Civil War. The Long Parliament was notable for its significant role in challenging royal authority and ultimately paving the way for the establishment of the Commonwealth under Oliver Cromwell.

1642 was a session year of the so-called "Long Parliament" that sat from 1640 to 1648. No-on 'ruled' it, since parliament made its own decisions and could be dissolved only if a majority of its members agreed. But is was established during the reign of Charles I.

Long Parliament was created in 1640.
