How close together the molecules (particles) are in a substance/material. Solids are closely packed, liquids are loosely packed, and gas are very loose, freely moving molecules.
probably because of the weaving of the fiber used to make it is so close together barely making space for H2O to enter. Thus when exposed to heat, the water easily gets removed from the silk since the H2O molecules barely enter.
