When the oil furnace clicks on and the heat comes out you can smell oil then goes away when it clicks off could there be something wrong?

There may be a hole in the heat exchanger allowing the combustion gases to mix with the air that circulates into your home. another possibility is an oil leak that allows fumes to mix with the circulating air. Call a certified oil furnace service technician to review your furnace right away. Sometimes a furnace with a hole in the heat exchanger allows deadly Carbon Monoxide to circulate in your home. You can't smell the carbon monoxide but it is deadly.
