The traditional cutoff is 140/90, but more recent research has shown that any consistent BPs above 130/85 warrant treatment. Anti-hypertensive medication which brings blood pressure into the 110/70 to 120/80 range significantly reduces the risks of myocardial infarctions (heart attacks) and cerebrovascular accidents (strokes).
