Air pressure is generally higher at the beach compared to the mountains. This is because air pressure decreases with altitude; as you ascend to higher elevations, such as in the mountains, there is less air above you, resulting in lower pressure. Conversely, at sea level, like at the beach, the weight of the air above contributes to higher air pressure.
The pressure decreases as altitude increases due to the decrease in air density. Air pressure is caused by the weight of the air above us, so at higher altitudes where there is less air above, there is less pressure. In contrast, at lower altitudes like in valleys or near the sea, there is more air above, leading to higher pressure.

Mountains cause moist air from the sea to rise. The water in this humid air condenses and falls as rain on the windward side of the mountains. The now dry air passes over the mountain forming a rain shadow desert on the leeward side of the range. See the diagram above.

Air pollution qualifies as such. Surrounding mountains and high elevation above sea level contribute to a "cook pot effect", preventing air currents from blowing the smog away, and keeping it trapped in the Mexico City valley below.
Most of the Rocky Mountains are 7,000 above sea level.(:
