The Franks were found in the annex(attic) because one night a thief broke into the warehouse where they were hiding. For their safety, Peter Van Daan stepped up onto a couch to turn of a lamp, but fell, causing the thief to think someone was in the warehouse and run away. Later on in the war, after the invasion of Normandy, the thief told the Nazis who later showed up and took away the Franks. The only Survivor of the family was Mr. Frank, though Peter would have lived had he not gone on a march because he thought it gave him better chances of surviving, while Mr. Frank stayed behind. Also, Miep Gies, a helper, lived until January 11, 2010. She was 101 years old.
