Yep there is an Armenian speaking region that attempted to gain independence from Azerbaijan after the dissolution of the Soviet Union (USSR). However Azerbaijan only wanted independence for itself, and did not want to easily let go of its territory.The region did break off and it is fully supported by Armenia, however it is not recognized by any country including Armenia.It is sad to see countries who used to be one are now against each other. the peace process is long long away.
