Boys become Bar Mitzvah at the age of 13, so we can assume that Ben had his ceremony in either 1978 or 1979 as he was born on the 30th of November 1965.

It is where the Bar Mitzvah ceremony takes place.
A boy has his Bar Mitzvah at age 13.
Yes, the boy is called 'a/the bar mitzvah' which translates as 'son of mitzvah'. For a girl, it would be 'a/the bat mitzvah' 'daughter of mitzvah'.
"Bar" is an Aramaic word meaning "son". The Hebrew world for son is "ben". The reason for "Bar" in "Bar Mitzvah" is that ceremony came into existence when Jews still corresponded in Aramaic.
The key player in the Bar Mitzvah boy is the 13 year old Jewish boy, his family and friends are invited to join in the celebration. For more info on Bar Mitzvah check out http://www.yourjewishspeech.com/bar-mitzvah
Bat Mitzvah
Bert Metter has written: 'Bar Mitzvah, Bat Mitzvah' -- subject(s): Bar mitzvah, Bat mitzvah, Juvenile literature
The phrase bar mitzvah, meaning "of legal age" is used in the Mishna, but it is used there as a term that simply denotes a man who is held responsible for his own actions and may be counted in a minyan (the quorum of 10 needed for communal worship). The Mishna identifies this with puberty, and the Talmud pins it down as age 13 without using the term bar mitzvah in the process. Rabbi Jacob ben Asher, in the early 14th century, wrote that it is a mitzvah for the parents of a child becoming bar mitzvah, that is, turning 13, to celebrate in much the way they would celebrate their child's wedding. From this, it is safe to conclude that the first bar mitzvah celebration was before Jacob ben Asher's time.
They have Bar Mitzvah ceremonies for boys & Bat Mitzvah ceremonies for girls.
