Goneril was created in 1605.
Shakespeare created the characters of Goneril, Claudius and Cassius as we know them. He did create much more villainous villains than any of these three--Goneril is pretty nasty but Claudius isn't that bad and Cassius is the hero's best friend. What about Iago, Aaron the Moor, or Richard III?
Goneril`s servants, particularly Oswald, do not treat Lear with the respect he thinks he deserves. Also, Goneril complains about the behaviour of the 100 knights in his train who are living in Goneril`s house and being drunk and disorderly. Goneril insists that 100 is too many and that Lear must dismiss 50 of them.

King Lear
Goneril, her sister, poisons her. Some productions feature Albany, Regan and Goneril celebrating after winning the battle, each having a glass of wine that Goneril pours. As she does so, she poisons Regan's glass, who shortly begins to feel ill. This has been done in some productions I've seen very effectively ! Goneril poisons her sister mainly due to her jealousy, as now Regan is a widow she is free to marry Edmund, who Goneril is also obsessed with.
In King Lear, written by William Shakespeare, the Duke of Albany is the husband of Goneril. Goneril is one of King Lear's daughters.
