He served as a territorial representative and was elected governor after Minnesota became a state on May 11, 1858. His term of office was May 24, 1858 to January 2, 1860.Henry Hopkins Sibley (1816-1876) was born May 25, 1816 in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was raised in Missouri, graduated from West Point, and served in several positions as a US Army officer.
