Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands and of Noord Holland (a province in the Netherlands). The Netherlands is often mistakenly called Holland, as Holland is in fact just a region of the Netherlands. Amsterdam is in that part of the Netherlands. -Haarlem is the capital of the province of Noord- Holland.
it never really was changed. Holland is just another name for The Netherlands!!!! edit: In fact it was the other way around (more or less) Before 1814, this is when The Kingdom of the Netherlands was grounded, the people in the western part of nowadays Netherlands called themselves Hollanders. Since most foreigners met only sailors from this area they believed everybody living between Germany, France and the Northsea were Hollanders. So Holland became a part of The Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1814, there are still 2 provinces in the western part of the Netherlands called North-Holland and South-Holland, which are the 2 most important provinces based on the amount of citizens and global companies, Amsterdam the capital is in North-Holland, Rotterdam with the greatest harbor in the world and The Hague, the city where the government is settled are in South-Holland.
The whole of Netherlands is sometimes referred to as Holland. However, the original area that was Holland makes up two provinces of Netherlands which are North and South Holland. They are located on the West Coast of the Netherlands. See the link below.
Holland is a western region of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Holland (a part of the Netherlands) is located in the continent of Europe.
Yes, Holland is a region in the Netherlands. However, the Netherlands is made up of twelve provinces, including North Holland and South Holland. So while Holland is part of the Netherlands, the two terms are not synonymous.
The Netherlands, once known as Holland.
Nederland is the official Dutch name of The Netherlands. Internationally Holland is often used as a synonim for The Netherlands, although officially this is wrong. Holland is the name of two provinces in the west of the Netherlands, namely Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland. In fact, Holland is just a part of The Netherlands.
