(Isa.49:7)

"This is what the LORD says -- the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel -- to Him who was despised and abhorred by the nation, to the servants of the rulers: 'Kings will see you and rise up, princes will see and bow down, because of the LORD, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who hath chosen you.'" (NIV)

This prophecy hasn't happened yet.

On either side of this passage, it reads:

"...I will make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth..." (verse 6)

and

"...In the time of My favor I will answer you, and in the day of salvation I will help you; I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people, to restore the land and to reassign its desolate inheritances..." (verse 8).

These prophecies are yet future... for after Jesus' return.

Salvation hasn't been brought to the ends of the earth, yet. The nations of the earth have not been saved. No nation, king, prince, premier or president "bows down" to the name of Jesus Christ, today. Only His presence, His power and His glory standing on the earth will force the nations to bow to Him. They will not be able to resist Him.

"...the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory." (Matt.24:30 NIV)

Nor has this dying world been "restored" as it shall be when Jesus shall heal the land and the nations under His rule.

Isaiah prophesys elsewhere, regarding Jesus coming rule on earth over all the nations:

"They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will rebuild the ruined ciites that have been devastated for generations. Aliens will shepherd your flocks; foreigners will work your fields and vineyards... You will feed on the wealth of the nations, and in their riches you will boast... My people will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace they will rejoice in their inheritance... everlasting joy will be theirs... For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness and praise spring up before the nations." (Isa.61:4-11 NIV)

Neither Jesus Christ, His name, nor His people are respected globally as this portends. God's saints have not yet received their "inheritance." Nor has righteousness and praise of the Lord "sprung up" before or among the nations.

These prophecies haven't happened yet.

Did the people know about Jesus in the Old Testament and how?

A:No. No one knew about Jesus in Old Testament times. We do know they never mentioned him, which is understandable. Another Answer:People in the 'Old Testament' did not know Jesus by name, but a good part of the 'Old Testament' was prophetic, and written specifically to foretell the coming of Messiah(mashi'ach), who would be 'anointed' by God to undo the problems caused by Satan, Adam and Eve. ALL the Jewsknew about the coming Messiah, as there were prophecies throughout the Hebrew Scriptures:(Daniel 9:25, 26)(Genesis 49:10)(Micah 5:2+4)(Deuteronomy 18:18)(Isaiah 53:3,5,12+Psalm 16:10)(Zechariah 9:9; Daniel 7:13+14)(Psalm 132:11)(Isaiah 9:7)(Isaiah 11:1+10)(Isaiah 7:14)(Jeremiah 31:15)(Hosea 11:1)(Malachi 3:1)(Isaiah 53:4), (Psalm 69:9), (Isaiah 42:1-4), (Isaiah 53:1), (Zechariah 9:9), (Psalm 118:26), (Isaiah 28:16) ,(Isaiah 53:3), (Psalm 69:8), (Psalm 118:22+23)(Isaiah 8:14+15) and many many more... From the first prophecy in Genesis 3:15, to Abraham when the Messiah's lineage was clarified (Genesis 21:12/Genesis 17:19) to when the prophecies were believed by many to have been fulfilled in Jesus (Galatians 3:16)(Genesis 22:18/Acts 3:25).

What are the Jewish requirements for a Messiah and did Jesus fulfilled all of these?

Christian AnswerThe Christian requirements for the Messiah are contained in the Old Testament, and include such things ashe would come through Abraham's line of descent. (Genesis 3:15; 22:15-18)be of the tribe of Judah. (Genesis 49:10)be David's heir to the throne and that His kingdom would be indefinite! (2 Samuel 7:13-16)be born in Bethlehem. (Micah 5:2)be born of a virgin. (Isaiah 7:14)be heralded by someone like Elijah. (Malachi 4:5, 6.)would come as Messiah at a certain time. (Daniel 9:25)There are also other Messianic prophecies about the life and ministry of the Messiah, and about the length of his ministry and his subsequent death. Many Jews (and later, many non-Jews) believed/believe that Jesus fulfilled all the pertinent Messianic prophecies. Many others do not believe that he did.Jewish AnswerThe word 'messiah' is the anglicisation of the Hebrew 'moshiach'. The word moshiach translates to 'anointed'. The title of moshiach was given to any person who was appropriately anointed with oil as part of their initiation to their service of HaShem. We have had many moshiachim (pl) in the form of kings, priests, prophets, and judges. There is absolutely nothing supernatural about a moshiach. This being said, there is a prophecy of a future moshiach, however, this is a relatively minor topic in Judaism and the Tanach. The Jewish requirements of hamoshiach are:Build the Third Temple (Ezekiel 37:26-28)Gather all Jews back to the Land of Israel (Isaiah 43:5-6)Usher in an era of world peace, and end all hatred, oppression, suffering and disease. As it says: "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall man learn war anymore." (Isaiah 2:4)Spread universal knowledge of the God of Israel, which will unite humanity as one. As it says: "HaShem will be King over all the world -- on that day, HaShem will be One and His Name will be One" (Zechariah 14:9)Hamoshiach must be descended on his father's side from King David (Genesis 49:10 and Isaiah 11:1)Hamoshiach will lead the Jewish people to full Torah observance. The Torah states that all mitzvot remain binding forever, and anyone coming to change the Torah is immediately identified as a false prophet. (Deut. 13:1-4)There is no prophecy of a virgin birth - Isaiah 7 contains a short term prophecy that was fulfilled in Isaiah's lifetime. The prophecy itself makes no mention of a virgin. The Hebrew word for virgin is 'b'tulah' which Isaiah uses throughout his writings. However, in this chapter, the word 'almah' is used. Almah means young woman and in this chapter, the young woman in question was already pregnant. The issue was that the Greeks did not have a word that was the equivalent to 'almah', instead, the translators used the word 'parthenos' which can mean either young woman OR virgin. In the prophecy itself, young woman's child simply served as the timeline for the prophecy itself: by the time the child is old enough to know good from bad, X would have occurred. There is no specification as to where hamoshiach will be born. Mentions of Bethlehem are in reference to hamoshiach being a descendant of King David. There is no specification as to when hamoshiach will be born. Daniel was talking about the destruction of the first Temple, construction of the second Temple, and then the destruction of the second Temple. As to whether Jesus met any of the requirements of being hamoshiach, the answer is that no, he did not meet a single one.

What did the Israelites include in the Torah Why do you think they included those things?

Your question is based on a misconception. The Israelites did not invent the Torah or decide what to include in it. The Torah was given by God to Moses (Exodus 24:12), word for word. Some indications of the Divine origin of the Torah1) No other religion claims a national revelation, because that is something that cannot be fabricated.2) Moses was no zoologist, yet he knew all the species named in Deuteronomy ch.14 and the nature of their digestion (verses 7-8).3) No Israelite of any tribe, had the Torah been a human invention, would have made Abraham the father of Ishmael, his firstborn (Genesis ch.16). No Israelite would have written that Isaac fathered Esau (Gen.ch.25). Nor would he have admitted the stigma that the Israelites had been slaves (Exodus ch.1). No Israelite would have penned the prohibition against warring with Ammon and Moab (Deut.2:4,9,19), who became enemies; nor would he have ascribed one of our important national institutions to a foreigner (Exodus ch.18).4) In no other religious text can one find such criticism of its own protagonists. No one is immune to having his faults exposed: Abraham (Genesis 16:5), Reuben (Gen.ch.35), Simeon and Levi (Gen.ch.34 and 49), Judah (Gen.ch.38), Joseph's brothers (Gen.ch.37), Moses (Numbers ch.20), Aaron (Exodus 32:2-4), Samson (Judges 14:1-3), Eli's sons (1 Samuel 2:12), Samuel's sons (1 Samuel 8:1-3), Saul (1 Samuel ch.15), David (2 Samuel ch.11-12), Solomon (1 Kings ch.11), and many others.5) No human would have forbidden farming for a whole year every seven years (Leviticus ch.25).6) No other ancient record has such a coherent and detailed account of the genealogy of nations (Genesis ch.10).7) A few examples of fulfilled prophecies: The Torah predicts the settling of the Holy Land (Deuteronomy ch.12), the construction of the Sanctuary (ibid), the later Destruction and complete scattering of the Jews (ibid. ch.28), and the later Return (ibid ch.30, and Isaiah 43:5-6). All these have been fulfilled. It also predicts that the Jews would never be completely wiped out (Leviticus 26:44), which is itself a historical miracle.Noah's blessing of "God will enlarge Japheth" (Genesis ch.9) has been fulfilled through the empires of Persia, Greece, Rome, Russia and America.God's promise to make Ishmael into a great nation (Genesis ch.17) has been fulfilled through the wide band of Arab and Muslim countries stretching from western Africa to Indonesia, well over 1.5 billion people.God's warning that "you shall go lost among the nations" (Leviticus 26:38) was fulfilled through the loss, to this day, of ten of the Israelite Tribes.Moses' blessing to the Levites that God would "smite the loins of those that rise against him" (Deuteronomy 33:11) was fulfilled through the miraculous victories of the Hasmonean kohanim over the Seleucids. The prophecy that "Edom will be inherited by Israel" (Numbers 24:18) was fulfilled when the Hasmonean king Hyrcanus subdued the Edumeans and converted them (Josephus, Antiquities 13:9:1).The prophecy that the Torah would never die out (see Gen.32:33, Deut.31:21, Esther 9:28, Isaiah 59:21) has been fulfilled, against all odds. The prophecy that the recently-barren Israel would once again bloom (Isaiah 41:18-20), has been fulfilled. The prophecy that Egypt would no longer rule over other nations (Ezekiel 29:15) has been fulfilled. Until the time of Ezekiel, Egypt had dominated a number of nations. But for most of the past 2500 years, Egypt has been controlled by foreign powers, including the Romans, Ottomans and Europeans. Today, Egypt is independent again. In 1948, 1967 and 1973, Egypt tried to dominate Israel but was unsuccessful each time. The prophecy that enemies of the Jews would reside in Israel (Leviticus 26:32) was fulfilled from the time of Nehemiah until today. The prophecy that Babylon's kingdom would be permanently overthrown (Isaiah 13:19) was fulfilled. After Cyrus conquered Babylon, it never again rose to power as an empire. The prophecy that Tyre's fortresses would fail (Amos 1:9-10) was fulfilled. The Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar attacked the mainland of Tyre, and later in 333-332 BCE Alexander the Great conquered the island of Tyre. Alexander's army built a causeway from the mainland to the island so that they could use a battering ram to breach the island's fortress. The prophecy that Nineveh would be permanently destroyed (Nahum 3:19) was fulfilled. The prophet said that Nineveh, which was the Assyrian Empire's capital and perhaps the most powerful city at the time, would suffer a wound that would never heal. The city of Nineveh, as well as the Assyrian Empire, has never recovered from its defeat at the hands of the Babylonians. These are just a few examples.
