Jervis Bay is part of the Australian Capital Territory, which was created to serve as a port for the inland Federal Capital of Australia in 1915.
Jervis Bay is the sea port for the Australian Capital Territory, which is completely landlocked. Jervis Bay does not have a capital city, because the Australian Capital territory, in theory, does not have a capital city. The Australian Capital Territory was created as territory for the national capital of Canberra, so one could say that the capital of Jervis Bay is Canberra - same as for the rest of Australia.
According to the most recent census, which was in 2001, the population of Jervis Bay Territory is 611.
HMS Jervis Bay was created in 1940-10.
Jervis Bay National Park was created in 1995.
Jervis Bay Marine Park was created in 1998.
Jervis Bay Territory is not a part of the ACT. It is a territory separate from the ACT. Residents of Jervis Bay Territory vote at Federal elections only and for this purpose they are part of the ACT electoral division of Fraser. The population of Jervis Bay Territory is made up largely of Aboriginal people from the Wreck Bay Community and naval personnel from HMAS Creswell, a shore based Royal Australian Navy training facility.
They will have one in 2014.
New South Wales Jervis Bay National Park was created in 1995.
Jervis Bay is in the Australian Eastern Time, which becomes Australian Daylight Saving Time in Summer. It is not a territory in its own right, but is part of the Australian Capital Territory, forming the only naval port for the ACT.
That would be any of the beaches within the Jervis Bay Territory. In 1908, territory was ceded by the New South Wales government for the purpose of creating the Federal Capital Territory (now the Australian Capital Territory), but because this was some distance inland, Territory needed to be acquired for a sea port. The Naval territory of Jervis Bay, which is the ocean port for the Australian Capital Territory, was ceded by New South Wales in 1915. Thus, any beaches in Jervis Bay are encompassed by New South Wales, but are actually not owned by NSW,
Within Australia, the state of New South Wales completely surrounds the Australian Capital territory. It also has a curious coastal extension called Jervis Bay, the naval port for the Australian Capital Territory (which is completely landlocked). Jervis Bay is separated from the ACT, but still within NSW.
The area of Jervis Bay Marine Park is 210 square kilometers.
