The director of Freddy Vs. Jason, Ronny Yu, wanted to cast a new actor for Jason who would be able to 'tower' over Freddy, and thus appear more menacing. Kane Hodder is 6 feet and 1.5 inches tall, whilst Ken Kirzinger is 6 feet and 5 inches tall. If Robert Englund is only 5 feet and 9 inches tall, then Kirzinger would be the best choice. Ironically also, Ken Kirzinger had played Jason briefly as a stuntman in Jason X, so he also knew some of the challenges involved. However, height was definitely the main reason.
