The First war of Independence was fought in 1857 and thereafter for the next 90 years many a great leaders contributed in leading the Freedom movement. In 1876 Swami Dayanand Saraswati first proclaimed the word of Swarajya (meaning total freedom self governance) which Naoroji, Tilak, Shyamji Krishan Verma, Madam Cama, Veer Sawarkar, Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chander Bose and many more carried and led the country to Independence by nonviolent and violent revolutionary means.

The post Independence history of India lacks truthfullness sincerity and honesty since the few important political functionaries favoured Gandhi. Overlooking the historical facts the contributions of thousands of freedom fighters right prominently from Rani Lakshmi Bai , Nana ji, Swami Dayanand, Shyamji krishan Verma,Mangal Pandey, Veer Sawarkar, Chander Shekhar Azad, Subhash Chander Bose and Bhagat Singh etc., the political hungry contemporary historians out of certain prejudices and political affiliations did unjustice in calling Gandhi the man responsible for the freedom. Indeed Gandhi contributed his life but his inconsistent character and oft political inassesments could never compel the Britishers leave India without the contrbution of these Revolutionaries. The satyagrehs did not bring freedom. It was the blood of those thousands who were inspired by these Revolutionaries truly responsible for the freedom. History would definitely get amended when in the years to come more investigations and researches shall reveal a different truth. History needs to be re-written.

Swami Dayanand Saraswati was the first to proclaim India for Indians. He was the first man who gave the call for Swarajay in 1876 which was later furthered by Lokmanya Tilak. Lokmanya Tilak also said that Swami Dayanand was the first who proclaimed Swarajya for Bharat i.e.India. *( Aurobindo Ghosh, Bankim Tilak Dayanand (Calcutta 1947 p1) One of his notable disciples was Shyamji Krishan Verma who founded India House in London and guided other revolutionaries like Madam Cama, Veer Sawarkar, Lala Hardyal, Madan Lal Dhingra, Bhagat Singh and others. His other disciples were Swami Shradhanad[3], Lala Lajpat Rai and others who got their inspiration from his writings. His book SATYARTH PRAKASH contributed to the freedom struggle by inspiring the freedom fighters.
