The site of Madrid has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The roman army established a base at this location due to the fact that there was a sizable community here to provision it.
The name Madrid comes form the Arabic word "al-Majrit" which means "water source" so the current name come from after the Moorish conquest of Spain.

Yes both Barcelona and Real Madrid were tied at the top once, about two years ago. Then it was decided on who defeated the other. And it was found that Barcelona drew a game, and the other game Real Madrid defeated Barcelona. Then real Madrid were declared winners.
