Think of it this way, 1238 was way beyond King Arthur (who actually might not exist in reality). The concept of a country wasn't there as yet. I vaguely remember about European history was that in the 14 century, most of European nations existed in a form of city states, or principalities.Germany was the last to be united as a country only around 1871.Thai history says Sukhothai was the very first true Thai Kingdom and the year 1238 might well be the year that the Thai declared its independent from Khom Empire. At those period of time, stronger Kingdom requested other Kingdom to pay respect to them by sending gift.Khom Kingdom (Khom and Cambodian are different race) those days requested that all other Kingdom surrounding them send gift in a form of water. They believed that they should perform a ritual once a year by bringing waters from seven territories to worship their gods, and Sukhothai had to send water to them with great difficulties. Those days, one needed to carry water in a big clay pot travelling on buffalo pull cart all the way from Sukhothai to Khom Kingdom where Cambodia is today.Thais lived in Sukhothai much longer before that year. Apart from Sukhothai, there were many other Thai Kingdom surrounding those area too. Chiangmai was Lanna Kingdom and so on.
