Dogs were never "discovered", they evolved from wolfs, meaning they have always been around-- but different groups of people discovered them at different times (due to geographic location)--a wolf is obviously not going to be on a Caribbean island or in the middle of a desert. Humans and wolfs eventually found that life was better together (however, when taming these wild animals, ancient humans would not keep wolves that showed signs of aggression). Over time, the evolved into the familiar breeds of dogs we see every day.
The dog evolved from a wolf like animal. It is known that dogs have been around since prehistoric times. Fossils show that this animal has existed in various forms for at least 30,000 years.
For a long, long time.

there is really no such thing as a "discovered" breed, all dogs were domesticated from wolves and other breeds of wild dogs intentionally for some purpose. Although some breeds of dogs are not registered with the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) as an actual breed. for example, the border collie cannot be shown in confirmation dog shows, because it is not recognised by the CKC.
