The anesthetics wasn't invented till the early 1800s. Crawford Williamson Long of Jefferson,Georgiamade the Ether Anesthetic, which is a

substance that induces insensitivity to pain, in 1864.


If there is a numbing medicine before 1864, I have no idea what that would be, but I am most certain this is the latest numbing medicine they had.
