This wasn't written by any one person, but assembled from a collection of annals and historical documents written by the learned monks of various English abbeys between the 9th and 12th Centuries. They were compiled by the monks of Winchester, Abingdon, Peterborough, Canterbury and Worcester, starting during the reign of the Saxon King Alfred the Great in the 800's, and were last updated in the mid-1150's under the reign of the Plantagenent monarch Henry II.
