Man made up the use of time to tell when there was passage of time or seasons. The ancient Egyptians did measure time and so have other ancient cultures. Usually, it was by seasons or the movements of the moon or sun. Some think that Stonehenge may be an ancient clock or calendar of some sort. The Romans made the current calendar that we use today and the names of the months still come from them. Some of our basic holidays were also founded by the Romans. The use of time down to determine swing shifts, weekends, and an 8 hour work day really didn't start until the industrial revolution when time was needed to be measured and clocked. We have almost gotten silly about it since we think waiting a minute at a stop light is too much. Time in itself is made up by man so he can know when to plant the crop, pray to the God or Godess, and when to reap the crop.
