To replace the dimmer switch in a 1984 Cutlass, first disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Remove the steering column cover by unscrewing it, then locate the dimmer switch, which is typically mounted on the column. Disconnect the wiring harness from the old switch, unscrew it from the column, and install the new switch by reversing the process. Finally, reassemble the steering column cover and reconnect the battery to test the new dimmer switch.

To replace the dimmer switch on your Celebrity: 1. Remove the lower cover panel that runs under the dash. 2. Remove the trim panel under the steering column. 3. Remove the nuts/bolts that hold the steering column up. If your car has column shift disconnect the string leading to the shift indicator. 4. Lower the steering column. It is not necessary to remove the steering wheel. 5. The dimmer switch is on the side of the column below the ignition switch. 6. Disconnect the wire harness from the dimmer switch. Take out the screws and the switch will come off of the column. Note how it goes on the operating lever. Reverse the procedure to install the new dimmer switch. Check its operation before raising the steering column back in place.
The dimmer switch is located near the floor on the left side of the steering column. The dimmer switch and ignition switch are secured by the same two screws. The dimmer switch will be the one on top. Loosen and remove the screws, disconnect the wiring harness from the dimmer switch and replace with the new switch, complete the assembly in reverse order.
The dimmer switch is located under the dash to the left of the steering column. Unfortunately I don't know of any way to get to it without dismantling the dash and the steering column. Even with those items removed, it was a real chore to get at it. When we replaced my dimmer switch, we got everything back together and found that the rod that connects the dimmer switch to the lever on the steering column was bending too much to activate the new dimmer switch. This job took all day and was a waste of time and money as we have a new dimmer switch but it is useless without fixing the connecting rod problem.

The turn signal lever is the dimmer switch. You either pull it back or push it in. but also the dimmer switch its self is in the steering column u have to take the steering wheel off to replace
The dimmer switch is said to be included with the steering column switch. Before replacing disconnect battery and removing steering wheel. After removing the steering column switch trim, unscrew hex bolt. Remove and replace switch and return components.

Remove the steering column cover by unscrewing the screws and gently prying it apart. Locate the dimmer switch, disconnect the wiring harness, and unscrew the switch from the column. Install the new switch by reversing the process, reconnecting the wiring, and reattaching the steering column cover.
It is bolted on the steering column behind the dash, along with the dimmer switch. You have to drop the column and unscrew the switch. Problem is, the plug with the wiring also has the wiring for the turn signals and dimmer switch. You may have to do some splicing unless you want to feed a harness up the column.
