Launched in 1984, the Psion Organizer was considered to be the first ever PDA. Its first model was based on an 8-bit Hitachi 6301-family processor. It featured 4K of ROM and 2K of battery-backed RAM, and had a single-row monochrome LCD screen. The machine provided a simple calculator and clock but had no operating system. Psion built on the success of this model by launching a newer model, the Psion Organizer II, which boasted a a much larger ROM and either 8K or 16K of battery-backed RAM and featured a newly-designed non-multitasking operating system. Both models had an alphabetically arranged 6x6 keyboard protected by a hard plastic sliding cover.

In 1993, Apple Computer Inc. released the very first PDA(personal digital assistants) "The Newton®". For the next three years, PDA sales dwindled, and were almost off the charts. Then, in March 1996, Palm™, Inc. delivered the industry's first truly compelling handheld computer, the PalmPilot. The first "PDA" was released in 1984 by Psion, the Organizer I. Apple coined the term PDA to stand for Personal Digital Assistant. I still use and own my Apple Newton MessagePad 100 from 1993...
what is a pda in an aircraft
If you asked what a file on a PDA is, my answer is everything. anything you see on a desktop computer can also be a file on a PDA. If you asked what a .pda file (having an extension of PDA), sorry, no idea. :)
PDA's can be connected to a computer. Files can be transferred from the PDA to the computer and from the computer to the PDA. Data such as phone numbers, addresses and appointments can be synchronized between PDA's and computers so the information can be the updated.
