Indian Head cents were first issued in 1859 and were minted until mid-1909 when the familiar Lincoln cent was introduced.
Many people aren't aware that Indian head cents were issued in two major varieties and two different compositions.
1859 cents carry wreath design on the back. A small shield was added the next year, and that reverse design was used for the remainder of the series.
