it was in 1846
Actually it is well documented it was in 1663 but it was a crude flushing device and there was to trap seal thus creating a nuisance because of the foul fumes.
In the 1740's vast improvements occured BUT only the very wealthy could afford to have these working fixtures
John Crapp. ========= Oh Puh-leeez. If you're going to be silly, at least get your facts straight. Although the invention of the flush toilet has been attributed to Thomas Crapper (from whence comes the word 'crap'), that claim seems to be highly questionable. Thomas Crapper did, however, manufacture and sell flush toilets in considerable numbers.
The first flushing toilet was invented and made for the queen of England (I'm not sure which one) by Thomas Crapper. He was later knighted to Sir Thomas Crapper.
Actually, ancient Greeks and Romans had flushing toilets (albeit somewhat crude and way ahead of its time) and running water as early as the 1st century AD. they were made of stone or wood and many were communal.
Sorry I was't more specific, The first flushing toilet with an integral trap was by Thomas Crapper.
It was NOT Thomas Crapper One should look into the publication "History of Plumbing" Crapper was credited with the invention BUT in actuality he did not invent it or even improve on the mechanical workings.
This was a tall tale made up and people took it for granted without bothering to actually look it up and this is how more lies are spread through out generations of misinformed people.
Over 3,000 years ago look up the history plumbing as the past cultures did have toilets and it is uncanny how much they look like modern day toilets
Sir John Harrington in 1596 for Queen Elizabeth (his godmother).
It was not Thomas Crapper, he Merely improved the creation.

The first indoor bathtub was introduced in 1870. It was in Seattle, Washington. John Michael Kohler later made the first tub specifically for indoor bathing in 1883. He did this by applying enamel to a horse through. His company later started making indoor toilets, sinks, and other plumbing. Kohler is still a popular name in indoor plumbing to this day.
