It is not known. The first account of silk in Rome was in the 1st century AD by Pliny the Elder (23-79 BC) who described silk dresses which allowed women 'to be dressed but nude' and speculated that silk came from 'the hair of sea-sheep' or from trees. It was said that Julius Caesar (100-44 BC) had silk curtains.

Silk was known in Greece and Judea in the 4th century BC. The Persians bought silk from the Chinese. Large scale use of the silk Road for trade begun in the 1st century AD. This is also the period when the Romans conquered Turkey and Syria, which were terminals of the Silk Road on the eastern shores of the Mediterranean.

One can speculate that silk reached Rome in the 2nd or 1st century BC.

What was the original purpose of Georgia?

If you're referring to the state of Georgia (in the U.S.): When James Ogelthorpe founded the state of Georgia, he had intended it to be a place where criminals and debtors could start their life afresh. He intended to import silk worms and Mulberry trees so that they could flourish on a silk industry, much like the Chinese were at the time. However, the silk worms did not eat the Mulberry leaves, and the colony failed as a silk industry.

What natural material was exclusive to China and made by worms?

You are thinking of silk, which was not a 'natural material exclusive to China' so much as the method used to develop silk from the silkworm was a technique developed or invented by the Chinese. Any body with silkworms can make silk, but only the Chinese (at the time) figured out how.

Who invented the decimal notation in arithmetic?

The Chinese or Romans? Certainly not the Romans. The concept of decimal fractions was known to the Chinese in the first century BCE (Joseph Needham, Science and Civilisation in China) but in Europe the modern decimal notation originates from the Dutch mathematician Simon Stevin (1548/49 - 1620) although the decimal point comes later and was in use by the time of John Napier.

What is the impacton the silk road?

When the silk road was created, it helped link china to other countries, so china could get other goods, and other countries could get goods that they never had, also, in the silk road, the Chinese found out about how there are kits of other countries, therefore allowing them to trade with lots of other countries for things they don't have. Most of the time the Chinese sold silk, hence the name, the silk road. Silk was so popular because nobody else knew how to make it, and if any of the Chinese gave away the secret on how to make silk they would be greatly punished or even killed. Some dangers of traveling on the silk road were, bandits, sandstorms, scorpions, and having to travel over the Pamir Mountains.

What items did other countries want from China in the time period of 1280-1368?

The Chinese had a lot of raw materials and was famous for its trade during that time. It had furs, wax, ointments, spices, and other raw materials, but what it had that no other country during that time had, was silk. The Chinese made sure that no one would get the secret of making silk. If a chinese merchant were to give away the secret, he would be executed. He probably would be executed along with his family too. Since no other country had silk, China sold it at a very high price. The Byzantine Empire, however, was able to get spies in China. The spies then stole some silkworms and smuggled them out of China. Then the Byzantine Empire made silk and sold it at lower prices.
