While no one may know for sure, the truth is that agricultural tools similar to what we today know of as the hoe have been around for a long time. There is on record a 2,000 years old Roman version.
Also called a stirrup hoe or a scuffle hoe, some form of it has been in use about as long as humans have had the ability to work iron. Centuries.
