The first iron was a heated rooling pin used in Greece around 400 B.C. The first flat irons appeared in Europe in the 1300s, The electric iron was invented in the 1880s when electricity became widely available in homes. The first electric iron was patented by Henry W. Seeley in 1882 and has been improved upon ever since.
