I think Naruto will be stronger in both Naruto and Naruto Shippuden because he has the nine tailed fox inside him. Altogether there are nine animals with tails like the kyuubi such as the sanbi(3 tails) and the hachibi(8 tails). Gaara's animal inside him only has one tail so Shukaku (the one tailed tankuki) is the weakest out of the nine animals. Naruto will die if the nine tailed fox reaches 9 tails or if the akatsuki like Itachi suck the power out like what they did with Gaara except Gaara was saved by Granny Chiyo. Though Naruto before the Chunin Exams wouldn't stand a chance against Gaara pre-Chunin Exams.

Garra did not kill his mother. When Sasori's grandmother, Lady Chiyo sealed Shukaku inside him, his mother died at childbirth. So, actually it was Sasori's grandmother who caused Karura's death, with the sealing of Shukaku into Gaara before his birth.

yes gara dies, when the akatsuki, takes out the bijuu that that is sealed inside of him but then naruto was able to retrieve gaara after they attacked the 2 akatsuki members (diedara and sasori) that had captured him but naruto was late and gaara was already dead by the time he got there. Kakashi and naruto pursued diedara (who was carrying gaaras corpse) whilst elder chiyo (an old lady from the village hidden in the sand, and sakura fought sasori in the end, naruto and kakashi retrieved gaaras corpse and elder chiyo used a very powerful ninjutsu that brought gaara from the dead but sadly the price for that jutsu was her own life... RIP granny chiyo *sad face*

can neji beat gaara probably not. Neji's close combat moves would be pretty useless and gaara could easily do sand burial. Although Neji is fast, Gaara's sand is faster. Plus if gaara let out the the Shukaku, neji would get owned big time. Neji would put up a fight though.
