Most of them. Out of 42 chances to defend their title, only 8 teams did and only 3 teams tried and failed. Although the Packers, Dolphins, 49'ers, Cowboys, Broncos, Patriots and Steelers (twice) had consecutive victories, none even got a chance for a third. Only 3 times did a team win one Super Bowl, then lose the next one. * The Dallas Cowboys won Super Bowl XII, then lost Super Bowl XIII * The Washington Redskins won Super Bowl XVII, then lost Super Bowl XVIII * The Green Bay Packers won Super Bowl XXXI, then lost Super Bowl XXXII Only twice did the loser of a Super Bowl win the following year, and they were consecutive : * Dallas Cowboys lost Super Bowl V to the Colts, won Super Bowl VI over the Dolphins * Miami Dolphins lost Super Bowl VI to the Cowboys, won Super Bowls VII and VIII (see related question for all winners to date)
Through Super Bowl XLIII, that has happened three times: 1) The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XII and lost Super Bowl XIII to the Pittsbugh Steelers.
2) The Washington Redskins defeated the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XVII and lost Super Bowl XVIII to the Los Angeles Raiders.
3) The Green Bay Packers defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI and lost Super Bowl XXXII to the Denver Broncos.
This has happened four times in the history of the NFL since the Super Bowl began.
1988 - Redskins and Broncos were in Super Bowl XXII (1987), both teams failed to qualify for the playoffs in 1988.
1999 - Broncos and Falcons were in Super Bowl XXXIII (1998), both teams failed to qualify for the playoffs in 1999.
2002 - Patriots and Rams were in Super Bowl XXXVI (2001); both teams failed to qualify for the playoffs in 2002.
2003 - Tampa Bay and Oakland were in Super Bowl XXXVII (2002); both teams failed to qualify for the playoffs in 2003.
The Super Bowl has had 8 Back to Back Champions. They are:
The 2009 Steelers and 1995 Cowboys
Pittsburgh Steelers (2007)
The steelers 2009-10
The Steelers were named the Super Bowl champions for the following seasons:1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, 2005, 2008.
The Super Bowl that was played to decide the 2004 Champions (New England Patriots) was Super Bowl XXXIX (39), The 2005 Champions (Pittsburgh Steelers) was Super Bowl XL (40), and the 2006 Champions (Indianapolis Colts) was Super Bowl XLI (41). When declaring a Super Bowl champion for a season, it is when the season started, not the year the game was played. Even though the Super Bowls were played the following year in either January or February.
The Steelers missed the playoffs three times after winning a Super Bowl the previous year.1980 season - following SB XIV2006 season - following SB XL2009 season - following SB XLIII
The Steelers defeated the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XIII on January 21, 1979 to become the 1978 Super Bowl Champions.
The Denver Broncos won Super Bowl XXXII to become the NFL champions, on January 25, 1998. They also won Super Bowl XXXIII the following year.

The Cleveland Browns have not won a Super Bowl or even been to a Super Bowl. Have not even been the AFC champions.
All teams that have won the Super Bowl have become world champions. Since the 1970 merger of the National Football League and the American Football League, the Super Bowl winners have been considered NFL champions.
I'm pretty sure its both. I've heard them call it world champions and super bowl champions on sportscenter but i couldn't figure out which one it was. But i just call it super bowl champs but.... i have heard it on sportcenter called world champions.
