According to our tradition, it was built within a couple of months, starting from the eleventh of Tishrei 2448 (1312 BCE).
It was built while the Israelites were sill camped adjacent to Mount Sinai.
Their forty-year journey in the wilderness 3300 years ago, during which they received God's Torah, built the Mishkan (Tabernacle), and began functioning as a nation...a nation of Torah.

Wilderness, not desert. They received the Torah from God, built the Mishkan (tabernacle), appointed judges. A foreigner named Bil'am (Balaam) tried to curse them but was frustrated by God in his plans.

Later, the Temple (Deuteronomy ch. 12) was built by King Solomon and stood for 410 years in the time of the prophets. After the first exile, the second Temple was built in the time of Ezra and stood 420 years. It was destroyed 1943 years ago.

The mishkan is the Hebrew name for the ancient Israelite temple in Jerusalem, and for the portable temple that the Israelites used when they wandered for 40 years in the desert after leaving slavery in Egypt. The kohanim is the Hebrew word for the hereditary caste of priests who served in these temples. The kohanim prepared offerings of food which the Israelites brought to be sacrificed at the temple. The Kohen Gadol, or high priest, also had a special role on the day of Yom Kippur. at that time he went into the inner snactuary of the temple and pronounced the Name of God, which was not pronounced at any other time.
