The botanical gardens at UNC Charlotte were begun in 1966. Today the botanical gardens are over 10 acres and also boast a 4,500 square foot glass greenhouse.

I just heard her read at the "Shaping Memories Reflections of African American Women Writers" event this past weekend at the University of North Carolina - Charlotte (UNCC). She is very much alive and is a participant of the Wintergreen Women Writers' Collective, who is a group of awesome African American female Writers' that have met consistently and mentored each other over the past 20 years.
