There is an account of what happened to Westerbork on page 375 of Harry Mulisch's novel The Discovery of Heaven. After the war, it was first used to hold Dutch fascists; then it became a military camp; then a camp for Dutch refugees who were expelled from Indonesia when that country freed itself from Dutch colonial rule; then, when the Indonesians perescuted Moluccan separatists, it became a camp for Moluccan refugees or asylum seekers, a communith the Dutch subsequently tried to break up by settling the Moluccans in small groups in Dutch towns and villages. It then becvame an electronic astronomical observatory, which it is to the present day. Because the name Westerbork had such Nazi connotations, the name of the place was changed at some time to Schattenberg.
