I'm on the same question... 2005 Tuesday 7 June Science Chemistry C.E Paper!!
It expands when you freeze it
When water freezes, it expands in volume; most liquids decrease in volume when they freeze.
When frozen water expands, it gets lighter. So ice can float on top of water instead of sinking to the bottom.
because the mixture of ice and water has an equilibrium temperature of 0 C and thus it will be the first calibration system and making sure that thermometer is working properly. The thermometer will have better contact with the water than with lumps of ice and therefore adjust better to its temperature.
the water gets into cracks of the rock then over time if the water doesn't evaporate it freezes and expands. When the ice expands the crack gets bigger when the crack gets big enough it splits the entire rock
that water expands when it gets cooler , other forms of matter expands when it gets hotter.
That would be water.
It expands when you freeze it
It expands and gets extremely hot...
When water gets into cracks and it gets cold, obviously it freezes. When water freezes it expands. As the ice expands, it breaks apart the surrounding material and makes the crack bigger, causing more damage.
Water expands when freezing.
Water expands when it freezes. In winter, water gets into minute cracks in the rocks and then as it freezes it expands and makes the cracks bigger. So more water gets in then freezes so the cracks get bigger still until the rocks break apart.
i know that when water freezes it expands and its volume gets larger but i am not sure how much.
When water freezes, it expands in volume; most liquids decrease in volume when they freeze.
frost wedging is when water gets into a crack in a large rock and when ice freezes it expands and when it expands inside a rock it might break in half
When frozen water expands, it gets lighter. So ice can float on top of water instead of sinking to the bottom.
No, water should not be kept in your pool all winter. When it gets cold enough, the water will freeze. When water freezes, it expands. So when the water in your pool freezes and expands your pool will be ruined.
