The next U.S. Presidential election is the Election of 2020.
On Tuesday, November 3, 2020, the voting public of each state plus the District of Columbia will choose a slate of electors to cast the votes for their state by indicating their preference for President and Vice President. The slate of electors pledged to vote for that ticket is then appointed. In Nebraska and Maine, two electors are appointed from each state based on the popular vote within the whole state, and one elector is appointed based on the popular vote within each federal congressional district. In each of the other 49 "states", the entire slate of electors is appointed based on the popular vote within the whole state (these are known as winner-takes-all states).
On Monday, December 14, 2020, the 538 electors assemble within their own states and cast their votes for President and for Vice President.
On Wednesday, January 6, 2021, a joint session of Congress headed by the Vice President will assemble to count the votes.
On Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at noon EST, the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court will swear in the winners.
