The last year that they printed any high denomination currency was in 1945 (with the series of 1934). They started being actively removed from circulation starting in 1969 (although in practice most had vanished earlier) and today they are worth more than face to collectors of currency (especially the 10,000 bill!)

What was the last year silver was put in a Kennedy half dollar?

That would be the 1970d with a silver content of 40% (ASW.14792) But they were not released for circulation and were Mint Set issue only. Some 1976 Bicentennial proofs were also struck in 40% silver, and since 1992 "Prestige Proofs" have been made in 90% silver. These coins were only intended for sale to collectors and were never put into circulation.

What are markup sessions?

Why did the US stop making 500 dollar bills?

According to the Treasury Department, the last high-denomination bills were printed in 1945 but all carried the series date 1934. Production ended due to low demand; as noted for most people $500 was a considerable amount of money during that time period. The bills remained in circulation and could be obtained at major banks. However in 1969 President Nixon issued an order suspending distribution of all bills larger than $100. Banks were ordered to hold any that were deposited and return them to the Treasury for replacement with smaller denominations. The primary reason was NOT counterfeiting but the fact that high-value bills were being used by organized crime to move large sums without detection, a process called "money laundering".Because inflation has reduced the purchasing power of a 1945-issue $1000 bill to (much) less than $100 today there have been calls for printing new $500 bills and possibly introducing a $200 denomination to parallel the European €200 note. It's not likely to happen though because most large transactions can be handled electronically and large bills could again be "laundered" by terrorists as well as other criminals. They stopped making the 500 dollar bill because the United States government thought that if the bills got counterfeit, that they would put harm to the economy. You might be confused, but don't be. 500 dollars is still a lot of money, so is the 1000, 5000, and 10,000 dollar bill. That is the main reason they stopped making the high denomination bills. You can still purchase these bills online but at a very high cost. For example if you could counterfeit a 10,000 dollar bill over and over again you can become very "rich," and that is what the US government was worried about. The 500 dollar bill was a very popular bill, as was all of the other high denomination bills. You would most likely find a 500, 1000, 5000, and/or 10,000 dollar bills in very wealthy peoples wallets. They would often use these bills for clothing, dinner, and many, many other things.

When was George Washington put on the US 1 dollar bill?

This happened in 1869. $1 bills were the first to carry a portrait of George Washington, but it was different from the one on current bills. Subsequent designs featured other individuals (including his wife Martha) until 1918, when his picture once again appeared on the denomination. The current portrait is derived from a painting by Gilbert Stuart; it was first used on the 1923 series of $1 silver certificates and has been on all $1 bills issued since that date.

Was there a 15 dollar bill?

No major country prints $15 bills. The closest you're going to get is putting a 10 and 5 together, that or put three 5 dollar bills together.

Where can you get a US 500 dollar bill and how much is the cost?

You'd have to buy it from a dealer or collector. The last $500 bills were printed in the 1940s, and the Federal Reserve System stopped supplying them to banks in 1969. The bill's price would depend on its date, series, and condition. Bills from the last two series that were put into circulation (1928 and 1934/34A) are relatively affordable, with retail prices ranging from $600-$700 in worn condition to about double those values if only slightly used. Prices go up considerably for older bills and for uncirculated ones.

What is the largest dollar bill minted in the United States?

No dollar bills are minted in the US. The Mint only makes coins. Bills are printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. The highest denomination bill currently issued is $100. Until 1945 the largest bill printed for circulation was $10,000 but these weren't widely used. In 1934 and 1935 the BEP made special $100,000 bills that were used for transferring money between Federal Reserve banks. These bills were never put into general circulation and most were later destroyed. At least one was saved and is on display in the Smithsonian.

Is there a US 50000 dollar bill?

No. The largest circulating denomination ever printed was $10,000. A small number of $100,000 bills were printed for use in transactions between government departments but these were never put into circulation.

How many one dollar bills are there in the USA?

No one keeps track of the total number of bills in circulation, but between 2 billion and 4 billion $1 bills are printed each year. The average bill wears out after about 2 years so a really wild guess based on those two statistics would put the total number in circulation between 4 and 8 billion. FWIW that huge number of bills needed and the cost to print them are the reason there's so much current (2011) controversy over possibly replacing the $1 bill with a coin and using more $2 bills.
