As far as I know they still are under the name of "low stimulation area". These room are not neccesarily padded but have rounded corners and no door handle on the inside, They might have a very heavy foam bed in there. Not every hospital will have one of these. District General Hospitals which do not have a Psychiatric intensive care unit are more likely to use these. When someone is on one they are usually constantly monitored and taken into a better environment as soon as it is safe.
