The Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty (1968) was a treaty regulating and restricting the use of weapons usable nuclear technology, while propagating peaceful uses of nuclear energy. It was a direct result of US President Dwight Eisenhower's 'Atoms for Peace' project, and is till date the most widely recognized IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) document. All UN member states, except India, Pakistan and Israel, have signed and ratified the treaty. North Korea, although originally a signatory, withdrew from the treaty in 2003.
