Freon is the Brand name for a number of clorfluorcarbon refrigerants or CFC`s and HCFC`s manufactured by Dupont that contain clorine which is harmful to the Earth`s protective Ozone layer. In 2010 U.S. manufacturers will cease making new equipment that use R-22 (Europe has already done so), the last widely used HCFC. R-22 will continue to be made in order to support the equipment which still use it. However once all of that equipment has reached the end of it`s service life it will be replaced with equipment which use a non HCFC refrigerant. This transition has already begun. If you were to replace your central ac unit today your contractor will more likely than not suggest a unit which uses R-410A or Puron the brand name trademarked by Carrier Corp who began marketing residential central ac units that use R-410A in 1996. R- 410A and other refrigerants gaining traction today have no Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP). The different working and handling properties of these new refrigerants along with the oils that are used with them have made it necessary for all HVAC Technicians to return to the classroom for seminars on the new required installation and service techniques associated with the change in refrigerants and also made it necessary for us to purchase a separate set of refrigeration gauges and hoses specifically for use with R- 410A due to the higher operating pressures it runs at. Back to the question, by Freon I surmised you meant CFC and HCFC refrigerants. The price of R-22 has begun to rise (taxes to discourage it`s use). Like what we saw with R-12 (a CFC) which was the previous standard for refrigeration units for many years, topped out at around $30-$35 per pound and machines that still use it are almost a rare find today. Considering a 30lb cylinder of refrigerant which prior to 1993, cost $60 is now nearly $1000, people will break down replace the equipment they have been nursing along for years. Expect the same with R-22 in the next 5-10 years.

Freon gas is used in refrigerators, air conditioners, ovens and all other types of these things.

What is the name of the gas used in air conditioners and refrigerators?

Gas used in air conditioners are: R12 freon is dichlorodifluoromethane R134a is Tetrafluoroethane

What is the name of the gas used in air conditioners and refrigerators for cooling?

freon?

Do Home air conditioners still use freon?

Freon is only a brand name. There are two primary refrigerants(aka freon) used home air conditioners R-22(which is being phased out due to its ozone depleting) and R-410a(which is the primary replacement for R-22). R-22 A/C's are still sold but they are not being manufactured after January of 2010. So the only R-22 units being sold are units that were stockpiled.

Which coolant is used in cheap air conditioning?

R-22 (Freon 22) is used in a lot of home air conditioners. In the mid-1990s, manufacturers started switching to R-134a refrigerant. The manufacturers' data plate on the unit provides information about what type of refrigerant is used in a given installation. Manufacture of Freon 22 is being phased out and it is extremely expensive.

What is CFCs and why are they no longer being used in car air air conditioners?

CFC's are harmful for ozone layer. Thus they are not used in air conditioners now.

How do you help the ozone?

We can stop using CFC gases which are used in refrigerants and air conditioners which are responsible for its depletion. In this way we can stop global warming.

What is the work of a air conditiner?

Air conditioners cool the air to make the environment comfortable for people. The majority of air conditioners use compression to generate cold air. Freon (or a similar gas) has a very low boiling point. A compressor compresses the freon into a liquid. With both the compression of the gas and the heat of vaporization, it cases the now liquid freon to heat up. It is piped to an outside radiator & fan to cool the now warm freon to ambient temperature. The now "cool" liquid freon is piped inside the house, and allowed to expand which causes it to cool significantly. Another fan circulates air through the inside radiator and around the house. The "work" or "energy" is used is in the compression, and the fans.

What are signal conditioners used for?

Signal conditioners are used for a variety of purposes. They can be used as amplifiers, electrical isolators, exciters, and cold junction compensators.

Can freon 12 be used in place of freon 22?

No

Does not having freon affect the heater core?

no the freon is strictly for making cold when the a/c is being used in the summertime and what makes the heater core works when heat is needed is the coolant
