When Jesus died, and was risen He ascended to heaven, but the Holy Spirit is still active on earth, in fact when a person accepts Jesus as Savior the Holy Spirit enters into that person and dwells forever. When God wants to save a person He draws that person to Himself. The Holy Spirit convicts that person of their sin and when the time is right the person repents of their sin and turns to God through faith in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is in attendance at that time. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to take His place on earth while He (Jesus) is in heaven. God saved my soul through Faith in Jesus Christ over 40 years ago.
