North. Going clockwise, the directions are North, East, South, West. There are multiple rhymes people have made up to help themselves remember this order. (Never Eat Silk Worms, Never Eat Soggy Waffles, etc.)

From beginning of time, there was straight ahead, back, left and right. These were given direction from the sun. Away from the sun at noon in the northern hemisphere was called borealis, later called North by the Germanic speakers. Toward the sun was called australis, renames South. Facing north, occidentalis was on your left, later called west and orientalis was on the right, later called east. This renaming was done during the Migration Period.

If you are facing south, then the east is to your left.
The Sun rises in the East. But what's left and right of that depends on which way you are facing. Let's say you are facing East, then the answer is "N" for North. Could also be ENE.
When facing East, South is on your Right, North on your Left and West is behind you. this is the same whether you are in Ireland or Australia.

As long as you are not standing on either the North or South Poles, the east would be to your right.
The usage of the north star, or Polaris, is to find which way you are facing. If you are facing in the direction of it, you are facing north. If you are facing the opposite direction of the north star, you are facing south. If you are facing left of the north star, you are facing east. If you are facing right of the north star, you are facing west.
The Statue of Freedom in Washington, D.C. is facing east. It stands on top of the United States Capitol building and looks out towards the U.S. Capitol Reflecting Pool and the National Mall.
