What should the temperature reading be for a bimetallic thermometer when calibrating in an ice water bath?

When calibrating any kind of thermometer in an ice water bath, the temperature should be 0o C or 32o F.

What happens if you place a thermometer in any wavelength of visible spectrum?

Depending on the intensity of the light the thermometer should indicate an increase in temperature.

How do you calibrate a digital oral thermometer?

One should have a standard certified temperature calibrator system before attempting to calibrate a temp. transmitter. I believe you want to calibrate the temperature sensor connected to a transmitter and to an indicator. There are three things in all. Temp. sensor it could be RTD or TC. Temp transmitter which transmits the sensor input to the indicator on which one can read the temperature. All three can be calibrated separately or together. If together it can be called loop check. Now to calibrate the transmitter know the range the transmitter and the output signal it is designed for. Say it is designed for 4-20 mAmp signal output and the range is 50'C to 200'C. It means the transmitter is supposed to give 4 ma output when it is measuring 50 'C and 20 ma when it is measuring 200 'C and be liner through out the range. Connect the transmitter to standard 4-20 ma meter. connect the standard resistance equivalent of 50'C in steps of 50'C. Measure the map signal with each step of 50'C equivalent of resistance connected. with increase in step the mamp must increase correspondingly linearly upto 200'C on the meter. Repeat the same in decreasing order in steps from 200'c to 50'C and measure the mamp. Adjust the potentiometer if any on the transmitter in case of deviation. Let the transmitter be with in its defined permissible error range while adjusting the transmitter

When thermometer is laid ouside the sun does it measure suns temperature or air temperature?

If a thermometer is laid out in direct sunlight, it will not measure the temperature of the air surrounding it. It will measure the temperature of the heat directly reaching it.

What is the importance of thermometric liquids?

Thermometric liquid is the liquid found in the thermometer that help in the up and down movement of the temperature.

How does an ear thermometer measure the temperature?

An ear thermometer should be placed carefully in an ear to measure the temperature. The temperature is then taken by an infrared mechanism in the thermometer.

What type of probe should be used to check the temperature of a hamburger?

Meat thermometer.

Why should you never hold the bulb end of a thermometer?

If you hold the bulb end, the thermometer will measure YOUR temperature instead of the temperature of the medium that you wish to measure.

What are the disadvantages of shielding a thermometer?

Shielding a thermometer may have some disadvantages, including: Inaccurate readings: If the thermometer is shielded improperly, it may affect the temperature readings by blocking heat or cooling that should be reaching the thermometer. Slow response time: If the thermometer is shielded too much, it may not be able to respond to temperature changes quickly, which can lead to inaccurate readings or delayed readings. Uneven temperature distribution: If the thermometer is shielded, it may not be able to measure the temperature of the surrounding environment accurately, which can lead to uneven temperature distribution. Difficulty in calibration: Shielding the thermometer can make it difficult to calibrate and maintain, which can affect its accuracy over time. Increased cost: Adding a shield to a thermometer may increase the cost of the device and add complexity to its design, which can make it more expensive to produce and maintain. In summary, while shielding a thermometer may be useful in certain circumstances, it can also have some drawbacks that may affect the accuracy and reliability of temperature readings. It is important to consider the specific application and environment before deciding whether to shield a thermometer or not.
