You can pull 12 volts off of any single battery in the circuit. The output from each battery never changes, it's always 12 volts. Those batteries are wired together in SERIES to increase the final output voltage of the entire circuit to 48 volts.

To demonstrate this, place a voltmeter across the positive and negative terminal of any battery in the system. It will read 12 volts, regardless of which battery you're measuring across. Now place the voltmeter from the positive terminal on one battery and the negative terminal on a different battery. Depending on how many batteries you're measuring across, it will read 24, 36 or 48 volts.

Practical application - connect your 12 volt device from the positive terminal to the negative terminal on a single battery.

Will wiring 2 batteries in series hurt your boat?

Depends on the battery size. If your boat is a 12 volt system and you wire two 12 volt batteries in series you then have 24 volts. If the batteries are 6 volt batteries you will be fine. If you have a 12 volt system on your boat and want to use two batteries then wire two 12 volt batteries in parallel. You will still have 12 volts but will have double the amperage available and this will extend the running time of the batteries.

How do you make a 6 volt battery into a 12 volts?

That is Impossible. You can however make two 6 volt batteries into a 12 volt system by wiring the two 6 volts batteries in Series. You will then have an output voltage of 12 volts but the amperes will only be what one of the batteries have, In other words the volts will double but the amps will stay the same as if you only had 1 battery connected.

How do you get 24 volts from 2 batteries not in series?

Two 24 volt batteries in parallel will give you 24 volts. The only other way is two 12 volt batteries in series.

Can you parallel 4 sets of 6 volt batteries to get 12volts at the same time having the same batteries in series for a 48 volt laod?

Paralleling four sets of 6 volt batteries will still give you 6 volts. Two 6 volt batteries in series will give you 12 volts. Parallel these series sets will give you longer endurance at 12 volts. There is no way you will ever get 48 volts out of four 6 volt batteries.

Are 12v batteries actually 13.8v?

No, 12 volt batteries are 12 volts.

Can you charge 12 volt batteries with 30 volts of charge?

NO!

How do you link 12 volt batteries to get 48 volts?

You must hook them up in series. You will need four 12 volt batteries to do this.

How can you use three 12 volt batteries to make 24 volts?

You only need 2 12 volt batteries to get 24 volts. Join the negative post on one battery to the positive post on the other battery with a cable then connect the remaining positive and negative posts to the vehicle that has a 24 volt system.

Can you use 4 12 volt batteries in a 24 volt system?

Yes, if you wire them as two pairs in series to each other. Two batteries in series will give you 24 volts, and another two in series will give you also 24 volts. put the two 24v groups in parallel and you have 24 volts.

How do you convert 2 eight volt batteries to a 12 volt battery?

You can not. Looks like you have the two and eight backwards in the question as you can reconfigure eight 2 volt batteries to produce 12 volts. Think out of the box. Parallel two sets of two batteries in series for a total of four volts. Then add four batteries in series for an additional eight volts. You now have a total of twelve volts.

Can you wire two 6 volt batteries together maintaining 6 volts but wire a separate plug off the batteries in such a way as to have a single isolated 12 volt plug?

Yes, series the two batteries to produce 12 volts. Tap off of the two end terminals for the 12 volts. Tap off of the series jumper for the 6 volts of one of the batteries. The two 6 volt batteries can not be paralleled in this connection as they will short out.

Is a car battery 12-volt or 6-volt?

Modern automobile batteries are 12 volts.
