When you not connected to wifi it will use data(aka 3G) if you don't want to use data go to settings general network cellular data- if this is on your phone will search for wifi when your not connected to one therefore using your data. just shut it off and you will save yourself a lot of data. but if you forget thst you shut your cellular data off and go into safari a box will pop up and ask you if you would like to turn cellular data on. (kind of like when you put your phone on airplane mode and go to send a text or make a phone call)
