In order to see in 3D, your brain superimposes 2 images (one from each eye) at the same time. The difference in angle between the eyes is very slight at a distance, but is much more pronounced close up.
What you are seeing is simply 2 pictures...one of a view through the tube and one of your hand...put over top of each other.
