Downloading software does not affect currently existing software, but if "Open Office" automatically sets itself to open .doc (Microsoft Word) files, then the only way to open a file with Microsoft Word after that is either dragging and dropping the file onto the Microsoft Word icon or right-clicking on the file and selecting "open with > Microsoft Word"
